The KINTO Ceramic Lab range is a line of durable, sleek, and modern kitchen and table ceramics crafted in Hasami, a town in Nagasaki Prefecture. The prefecture is a historically rich region located on the northwestern tip of Kyushu Island, well-known for its 400-year-old porcelain tradition.
The Ceramic Lab range blends local Hasami sandstone and Amakusa porcelain stone. The bottom edges of the ceramics reveal the rough texture of the raw clay, creating a quarried-stone impression. A unique yo-hen effect, where iron in the Hasami sandstone reacts with the glaze, creates a rich band of colour where the glaze meets the stone, giving each ceramic a unique dipped-and-aged effect while reflecting modern ceramic forms.
