Japanese Craft
A sizeable portion of the Everyday Needs product offering is sourced from artisanal Japanese makers. Craft (工芸 kōgei, engineered art) in Japan has a long tradition and history. The practices of crafts people are passed down the generations, many still using the same processes, techniques and materials. Some favourite crafts are ceramics, textiles, woodwork and bamboo weaving, glass, nambu tetsu (cast iron) and paper making from washi paper. We are constantly excited by finding new pieces from Japan to stock in the store.
