Journal // Studio Visit with Michael Gilling
We visited the workshop of Michael Gilling, Christchurch based craftsman, lover of Japanese joinery, maker of handcrafted furniture and pours a nice filter coffee too.
As we welcome in a new year, there are a few objects that help make the daily grind flow with ease. Here are items that we use every day, spotted in the XYLO Woodcraft studio.

The smell of cut wood greets us as we throw up the roller door to the workshop. Light floods into the warehouse and there we find Michael, brewing a coffee and sweeping the sawdust. Wood sourced from beautiful and unlikely places. We chat in the showroom, about the future of furniture, the best type of mug and things to help with the everyday.
