Havills Mazer Mead and Bell Trees Honey have been producing mead & honey in North Canterbury since 1964. A family run business, the farm was recently purchased from founders Gabrielle and Leon Mead by Yoko and Motoshi Suzuki who now run the company. Motoshi worked as a beekeeper for 3 years in Japan and after immigrating to New Zealand in 2005, he commenced work to become a NZ master beekeeper; a full six years to learn NZ beekeeping. He finally found a place where he could work and live with his family and started his own beekeeping business in 2011. Motoshi owns about 200 beehives in North Canterbury, as an artisan beekeeper, taking pride in completing every procedure; from rearing his own queen bees to looking after every single beehive, honey extracting, honey packing and sales to customers at the Ohoka Farmers Market. The final product is a result to be proud of, Motoshi (and his bees) produce quality raw honey ready for you to enjoy. Motoshi loves bees, and believes happy bees make good honey. He takes good care of all the operations. As a result, he harvests a very good quality honey and it is RAW HONEY; collected straight from the extractor, it is totally unheated, unpasteurised, unprocessed honey: the precious enzymes, vitamins, antioxidants and antibacterial in the pollen still remain.
